很多人学佛人都读过《心经》，里面有一句「照见五蕴皆空」，那么「五蕴」到底是什么?

首先，「蕴」是什么呢？蕴实际上就是一种现象的集合点。既然这个「蕴」有聚集的意思，一般英文上就用 Aggregate 这个词来表达。
所以,「五蕴」就是 Five aggregates
更详细地说，五蕴就是色蕴、受蕴、想蕴、行蕴和识蕴，也就是色、受、想、行、识。
在五蕴中，除了色蕴是带有物质性的事物现象，其余的四个蕴归根结底都是一个思想性的东西，是内心的东西，而不是外面的，都是属于看不见的精神现象。
以下简单介绍一下五蕴各别的英文：
色蕴: 有色的世界，即物质。所以英文叫做: Aggregate of form, or materiality
受蕴: 就是你在精神上对一件事情的感受。Aggregate of sensations, or feeling
想蕴: 由心理行为这个动作所想出来的。 Aggregate of perception
行蕴: 意识行为，会形成一种善恶业。Aggregate of mental formation
识蕴:就是意识。Aggregate of consciousness
「五蕴皆空」，就是菩萨《心经》里面教导我们，要把色、受、想、行、识这五蕴都要空掉。
因此，《心经》中的「照见五蕴皆空」，常会翻译为：
To illuminate and see the emptiness of the five aggregates
